10 Photos a Mother Would Love

Mother's Day is Sunday!

Don't know what to get Mom for Mother's Day this year?  Give her something from the heart. Something that speaks to her sentimental side.

Surprise your mother with a special photo gift this Mother's Day with pictures that any mother would love. These are photographs that she will treasure for a lifetime—the kind of pictures that are destined to become cherished family keepsakes.

#1 A photo of her kids being affectionate

Take it:
Get your camera close and fill your frame with your subject for a more intimate and powerful picture.

Print it:
Give your picture classic appeal by experimenting with black-and white.

#2 A photo of her with her kids—all grown up

Take it: Create an annual family photo day. Shoot portraits of each family member on the same day each year. Or pick one day every month to do a quick photo shoot

Print it: These days, some of the best candid shots come from cell phones.

Make it formal:  Check out the special on our Elegant Beauty sessions - Photoshoot for 2 only $100 - share an Elegant Beauty Session with your mom or daughter!

#3 A photo that captures her family’s personality

Take it: To capture your family’s personality, forget unnatural poses and look for candid moments of everyone having fun together

Share it: It’s easy to e-mail photos that friends and family can enjoy

#4 A photo of herself as a little girl

Take it: Gather a handful of Mom’s favorite childhood photos—ones where her personality really shines through. Then see if you can find or take a similar one of her child or grandchild.

Share it: Display the photo, on a wall or in a scrapbook, next to a photo of her little girl at the same age

#5 A photo of a treasured object from her youth

Scan it: Bring cherished memories back. Scan faded or damaged family photos and repair them using photo editing software

Share it: Preserve your mother’s favorite old photos for future generations to enjoy. Scan them to archive on long-lasting discs

#6  A photo of her child with his/her father

Take it: There are few moments as memorable as a parent holding his/her newborn. So you really can’t take too many photos—the more you snap, the better your chances of getting a great shot

Print it: If you plan to frame a photo, print it on matte paper to reduce the reflected glare that can sometimes reflect off framed glass

Share it: A fantastic photo is a gift in itself. But you can make the gift even more meaningful by simply including a card, poem or letter that describes how the photo makes you feel or the memories it brings to mind

#7 A photo of herself when she’s pregnant

Take it: Try extreme angles for a dramatic effect—like shooting from directly above.

Share it: When you create an album or scrapbook of “baby’s first year,” don’t forget to include some maternity shots to tell the whole story.

#8 A photo of herself in love

Take it: Shoot subjects at eye level or slightly above to give the best view.

Print it: Print photos of the couple for a special photo album. But don’t fill the entire album yet—explain that the rest of the space is for the good times that are yet to come

 #9 A multi-generational mother photo

Take it: Sometimes you can best express a strong relationship by zeroing in on specific elements or details, like hands

Print it: Sepia tone can give pictures a warm, antique feeling.

Share it: Many photos, especially those capturing important moments, benefit from a larger, 8" x 10" format

#10  A photo of herself and her mother or grandmother.

Take it: If you always have your eyes closed in photos, try this: Blink halfway through a count of three (if the photographer gives you one) so that your eyes won’t be mid-blink for the shot.

Share it: Print photos of Mom and the kids on magnet paper (available at many office supply stores or online). Tuck them into her Mother's Day card, or create a surprise refrigerator art show with magnets.
