Welcome to brenPhotography’s Clickin with Brenda blog: Local Business Spotlight.  This feature highlights local businesses. Here you can learn about their services as well as the personalities behind them.  I love meeting these business owners and learning more about them while photographing them for updated headshots, family, or glamour portraits.

Today, meet Christine Camper, Susan G Komen 3 Day Walker and breast cancer advocate who has raised over $16,000 in the last 5 years! Christine needed a headshot that could represent her in all the charity work she does.

Read on to find out more about how Christine got involved and donate to breast cancer  HERE.

In 2009 two of my girlfriends were diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was during this time that I was inspired to make a difference. I remember hearing a 3 Day commercial on the radio and having that "ah-ha moment." 60 miles, 3 Days, sure I could do that!  Honestly, I never thought twice about it. I just knew that it had to be done.

Participating in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day completes me. It is my way of celebrating the remarkable women who won the battle with breast cancer. To honor all of the amazing women who continue to fight this ugly disease and to remember those who are no longer with us. I walk and crew for my daughter, my nieces and their future. I do it for you and me. Most importantly, I participate in the Susan G. Komen 3 Day because I want to live in a world without breast cancer.

In July of 2012 during my 3rd 3 Day event in Boston, my friend Kathi (age 44) succumbed to her year long battle with the beast. Not only did Kathi's passing  add a great deal of fuel to my fire, it also made my connection to the cause much more personal. I knew Kathi before cancer. I was outside the ring as she put up the fight of her life. I saw the devastation that breast cancer left on a beautiful family. Losing one person I loved to this God awful disease is one too many...or so I thought.

Each year I am required to raise a minimum of $2,300 in order to walk. Over the past  5 years I have raised a total of $16,565. Because of our hard work and relentless efforts, a variety of drugs are now available to patients. Doctors now have gentler chemotherapy options & are preforming less invasive surgical procedures.  Mammography advancements are being made AND most importantly, men and woman all over the world are SURVIVING breast cancer when detected early.

The Susan G Komen 3 Day is best known for: Supporting breast cancer research and training grant programs as well as large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The 3 Day also helps fund local community and Affiliate support.

What is something interesting about the Susan G Komen 3 Day that your supporters might not know? We walk 60 miles over the course of 3 days. We take lot’s of breaks. We eat lots of food. We camp and sleep in pretty pink tents, we use porta potties all weekend and guess what? We shower in tracker trailers! We get blisters, we cry, we laugh but we NEVER give up!

Advice I wish I had 5 years ago: Believing that I was exactly where I needed to be.

On my day off (which is never....) I enjoy sleeping in and going in slow motion.

I can’t start my day until I have ingested a significant amount of coffee!

You’ll never see me without my nails done. Yes, silly but true.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Nursing

What is the one thing you wish you knew how to do? Ballroom Dance

Why did you need a headshot? I didn’t necessarily need a headshot. I was invited by my friend Karen Mitura to attend a Networking Event where Brenda was offering mini photo sessions. It sounded like something fun to do. I had nothing to loose. In an age of “Selfies” Having a professional headshot is something everyone could use!

How did you feel about your Business Portrait experience with brenPhotography? My experience with Brenda was nothing but wonderful. She made me feel comfortable and confident.
